Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) is an environmental and community nonprofit with a mission to help people and nature thrive. We’re an award-winning affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., a national organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and environment in American communities.
We believe in shared responsibility, and we know that sustainability starts with love. So we engage and empower citizens of all ages and backgrounds to take action. From tree planting to block-by-block cleanups, we roll up our sleeves to keep Indianapolis beautiful and make our city proud-both today and for generations.

Our mission is to engage diverse communities to create vibrant public places, helping people and nature thrive.
What We Do
We work with neighbors and volunteers to plant trees and native landscapes, create community spaces, pick up litter, and engage students of all ages in nature. Each year, KIB supports over 800 community projects with nearly 20,000 volunteers. For over 40 years, we’ve partnered with neighbors, the public sector, and Indianapolis community groups and businesses to achieve our vision of a beautiful city.
Sustainable, focused progress.
In February 2021, the Board of Directors of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) approved the organization’s next Strategic Plan, covering the following four years (2021 – 2024). The guiding principle of this plan is a focus on improving environmental equity in Indianapolis.
A data-driven analysis has shown that some neighborhoods in Indianapolis have access to fewer environmental benefits like trees, green space, and clean streets than others. KIB will work alongside residents to thoughtfully deploy resources that aim to improve equitable access to these benefits.

We’re passionate about helping people and nature thrive, and we’re grateful to have so many passionate partners working alongside us.
Partner Spotlight.
For decades, Indianapolis city leaders have valued the link between their goals for how Indianapolis looks and feels and KIB’s mission to help people and nature thrive. Based on those shared goals, KIB receives funding from the City of Indianapolis, directed through the Department of Public Works (DPW), to assist with creating and maintaining green infrastructure (such as trees planted along a street). The city also supports KIB programming by providing trash disposal resources, collaborating on habitat restoration, and helping plant thousands of trees. In December, the city renewed its contract with KIB for 2023–2024 for litter abatement, green infrastructure, public awareness and outreach, youth engagement, and public gateway monitoring and maintenance.

Clean streets, happy trees, buzzing pollinators, and smiling volunteers are all the recognition we need. But we’re pretty proud of the local, state, national and international awards our programs, staff, community partners, and city have received over the years.
Mapping Our Work.
Committed to creating vibrant places and communities, AES Indiana Project GreenSpace is a grassroots effort that transforms vacant lots and underused spaces into natural, beautiful, and functional pocket parks and greenspaces. Use our map to find one in your neighborhood and head out to spend some time in nature!
